Soil Science is a very serious science with a history as old as Geology. The UK (and particularly Oxford University and Rothampsted) led the way in this in 1800 & 1900’s with Oxford setting up their research in Reading in 1940’s (becoming Reading University).
In 1980 the top 5 World Universities teaching Undergraduate Soil Science were in the UK, lead by Reading. Now there are none at all.
At exactly the time that the World (and the UK) needs the best research and best science, we’re largely abondoning one of the most important and fundamental aspects of our food production – the soil.
